Battery voltage drop on start up?

Featured Replies

Nothing has come up as a fault code and there are no problems as such, the car always starts instantly but its my old school ear that is telling me the battery is only just starting the vehicle.

Its very difficult to say because the engine starts within half a turn but the starter sounds slow during that time, to be fair it has not even overcome the inertia before the engine fires up and maybe without fuel it would crank over at high speed for 5 minutes, I just dont want to be caught with my pants down.

I could disconnect the fuel pump or something or try starting the car in gear but is there a way in VCDS to log the battery voltage during that short time frame?

I have a proper battery load tester but its in the UK, the battery was fine when tested on it a few months ago and is only one or two years old.

Something like this is handy to have; a plug in voltmeter with two usb charger points:-

Plugs into the power/cigi sockets so you can monitor battery volts before/during starting and while charging.

Not at all the type of response that I was seeking but very fortuituous nonetheless as I need a car USB charger anyway, not sure if the display would react quick enough as I know that my digital multimeter would not, the car really does start in a fraction of a second, I read all about the quick start feature of the PD engine in the VAG study guides.

I have a seperate problem that I have lived with for years of the satnav switching itself on including the display after 168 hours which if left connected to the charger will discharge the battery in a few days, I avoid it but having that device would warn me and also show me when the battery cell voltage finally does start to drop as it nears the end of its life.

so thanks, I will buy one but am not convinced it could give me the transient reading that I believe VCDS is capable of if I knew how.
