2003 Mk1 Octavia 1u2 VRS1.8T

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

My VRS 1.8T (AUQ engine code) has developed the following problem:

On cold start-up, the engine idle is erratic, and is very difficult to move off (kangaroo"ing). However if I leave the car to tick over (without trying to move off), it seems to clear, and then runs normally, & absolutely fine after that. The EML light does NOT come on. Any ideas please. Tks very much.

Un plug the maf, and see if its worse.

If it isnt, you maf is buggered and you need a new genuine one.

If the idle gets worse without the maf plugged in thats not the issue, but at least its an easy simple test.

The other issue hear could be related to the auxiliary air pump.

I had this issue myself a few months back. Kept hunting around for any hoses loose inside the engine bay but no luck. In the end, I cleaned the throttle body with some cleaner and then replaced the gasket as this was one of the cheaper fixes I found. This fixed the issues immediately, now runs fine on cold without having to wait about a minute for it warm up slightly.

Gasket I ordered was this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intake-Body-Gasket-for-Volkswagen-Audi-Skoda-Seat-028129748-Throttle-T4-EGR-A7/152731766266?hash=item238f85cdfa:g:nXUAAOSw7NpZ10RA:rk:1:pf:0

And just some throttle body cleaner from Halfords: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/fuel-oil-additives/wynns-fuel-injection-carburettor-cleaner-500ml

Be prepared to sacrifice a toothbrush and ask someone to help step on the pedal for easy cleaning. If you unplug the throttle body from the car, fairly certain it won't work until reset by VAGCOM or something. I followed this video as it explained every step.

Hope this helps you fix the issue.
