Guide - How to disable the brake pad indicator light on an Octavia MK1.

Featured Replies

If you have fitted non-genuine brake pads without a wear indicator wire, you will get a warning light displayed permanantly.

To disable the warning light you will need to use VAG-COM software (well documented on this site) and the following procedure. Note that the coding for SKoda vehicles is different to that of the VW Golf because they are coded for SatNav even though they do not have it fitted as standard.

Recode for warning lamps:

[select]

[17 - Instruments]

[Recode - 07]

Write down the existing coding for future reference. It is shown in the top half of the main screen and will read something like "23412". The first two digits will need to be adjusted to disable the brake pad warning light.

Change the code by subtracting 01 from the first two digits. In this example, 23412 would become 22412

[Do It!]

The brake pad indicator should now be disabled.
