Presumably, there’s a way of coding max display speed anyway

  • Here it is along with cumbrian accent and a complete lack of production values!!

  • Yeah the tint bit in the middle changes!

  • Theres lots of different combinations, one just has speed and fuel. Others have range or sat nav or multiple things. Its taking some getting used to. You can personalise certain screens too

When you step inside an M3 one of the things that make it seem special or different from a 320D is the fact that the speedo reads upto 200mph even though the car is limited to 155mph. Many cars these days can have the limiter removed by the manufacturer when you order the car as an option pack Audi, Mercedes and even the humble Golf R. The hatch can reach 166mph and estate Golf R due to better aerodynamics hit 168mph based upon official VW figures, so the question is if you paid the manufacturer extra money to be able to go beyond 155mph would you want a Virtual Cockpit that only reads upto 160mph. Would you feel cheated?

@shyVRS245You need to let this go

You can reprogram it to read 180 mph. The Golf R people have been doing it for a while. During my info gathering for retrofitting the vc into my car I’ve found that the cluster is very different to a Golf one and the cluster views are not controlled by the cluster, rather they are controlled by the view button on the steering wheel. Another part to add to my list...

If im understanding you right then yeah, the view button on the wheel cycles the different displays. There is customisation available on infotainment screen for changing the display values that integrate into the different views (things like range, average consumption, trip etc). The centre of the display can be changed using the thumbwheel and the button that used to change between driving info, audio etc.

Exactly this, unless there is a way to change the view without that button? As in between nav mode, classic mode, sport etc etc. Just trying to figure out what hardware I need as a minimum before I book the car in for the cluster coding.

I'll have a look for you!

Thanks a million, that would be so handy. I’ve seen pictures of the setup without the view button but with the newer MIB2.5 already fitted, dunno if I’m gunna need that button before sorting the cluster. I hate not knowing 100% what I’m doing but I suppose this is the reality of retrofitting.

Its not easy being a trailblazer Sasha! If I can help a little bit I will!

Ive just checked and sadly you need to view button. Im not sure what differences there are between our head units (if any) but mine has a digitak cluster section in the car menu. However all you can change is the details that appear in the dials and not the layout etc. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

No worries thanks so much! I’ll have to get a set of steering wheel buttons I suppose. No worries, it’ll be good when it’s all done :)

Its pretty good you'll like it!

ExSeat, me again :) You pleased with this feature then ! Can you change colour scheme on the display or is it preset? Are the dials big enough (just look tad smaller than standard dials) ? Do the 'needles spin smoothy or do they judder? It does look kinda cool ;)

All moves nice and snooth. The main display elements are set as red, the background can be changed within the settings. Difficult to judge on size, they may be marginally smaller but not something thats troubling me.

I have seen you can change the colours on the mk7 golf digital dash through coding, aswell as some cosmetic changes.

The advantages are in the information you can have displayed, or simplification. There is one that is simply a black screen with a digital speed at one side and range in the tank at the other. There is very simplified views and some clustered ones.

The screen has animations on startup and shutdown, with some nice touches like the fuel and engine temperature gauges climbing to their positions.

I'll take the gopro out later and make a video for youtube and link it here

That would be great, cheers mate, thanks for update ;)

Brilliant, thank you ;)

This is getting me excited to get mine in the car! I am thwarted by Christmas, need to wait for some space early Jan to have the coding done. Soon though!!
