It’s a 2011 done 60,000. I change the turbo wastegate about 4000 miles ago. It ran ok but now if  I rev over 4000rpm the car would go very lumpy, where is the best place I can buy a new turbo?

Is that the best price? Can I get same from TPS or similar?

TPS can supply the same, but don't know the price, except via Skoda dealer approx 50% more.

Skoda-parts also supply direct from IHI (the turbo manufacturer) cheaper

Did you readapt the turbo actuator when you fitted it? Readaption/basic settings via diagnostics need to be carried out when changing turbo or actuator.

Don't forget you need the fiiting kit as well with all the new gaskets, seals, nuts and bolts.

I havnt readaption the new actuator. From what I been reading. It sounds like VAriable vane sticking. Is there a simple fix or should I go buy a new turbo as I have young kids in car. The car needs to be 100%

Buying turbo from TPS check whether a surcharge applies, if does check if you can get this returned on returning the old turbo.

I had the same issue last year - it was particularly worse if I left the car for a few days when the weather was very cold.

I sprayed some wd40 on the actuator arm and on the actuator body and cleared the fault code with carista.

If I remember correctly when I sat off on a journey if the fault reappeared I turned the ignition off (local quiet road) and restarted it and it cleared.

Good luck,

The turbo has a wastegate, it is not a variable vane turbo.

When you fit either a new actuator or turbo, the readaptation is needed to calibrate the end stops of the actuator, i.e. to tell the ecu what the actuator position is for fully closed and fully open wastegate. This may be why you are having problems.

The common issues are worn out/bust actuator internals, and wear and sticking in the simple wastegate movement mechanism. In my case there was, according to the skoda tech, evidence that the water cooled jacket may have cracked internally as the inlet side was somehow full of water/coolant.

TPS do apply a surcharge (I was told by skoda it was about £300) refundable on return of the old turbo. They supply the remanufactured variant 03F 145 701 RX (RX is the remanufactured suffix).

If required I can post the individual part nos of the other parts (gaskets/seals etc) that Skoda used when fitting mine.

My dealer charged £1333 to supply and fit and readapt a new turbocharger.

Changing just the actuator would have been be £254.

I need 100% reliability, thats why I went for a complete new unit.

Skoda dealer repair using Skoda genuine parts is covered by a 2 year unlimited mileage parts and labour warranty.

I got £216 Inc vat on returning my old turbo to TPS, and fitting by local independent garage. So the dealer £1333 is not too bad for a dealer pricing assuming the assuming that includes the returned surcharge.
