Roomster Scout 2007 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

Greetings all, it's been a while since I've been on Briskoda so I thought I'd give a review after 3 yrs of ownership;

Our Roomie has consistently been one of the most reliable cars we have ever owned, it starts on the button, pulls like a train (mapped) and in my opinion looks great.

Niggles?

1) The headlamps are a disgrace, I have the swinging headlamp version fitted but whoever designed them should have been sacked - on dark A roads I can't see where I'm going because I'm driving in my own shadow from the car behinds lights! We fitted powerful HID's some 2 years ago, but I still think they are weak and don't pick out the road enough to make progress at night.

2) The headlamp lenses are utterly fogged, that's the next job - HID's were still crap before the lenses fogged

3) The Scout plastic panels look great when new but after the cut and thrust of country living are battered - I need to decide to remove the grey paint, or plasticoat them black

4) Ride quality (??) is on the firm side of firm with 16's fitted, and the quality of the finish on the alloys is shocking - they will be powered piano black this year.

5) Ride quality as a rear passenger - I've never been travel sick in my life, after 10 miles in the rear of the Roomie I came pretty close.

6) Front ARB bushes sound like there's a stone in the discs

Positives?

1) It goes and stops beautifully, the car handles really well and is so torquey it fires out of corners

2) It looks fantastic, rear windows blacked out

3) Factory detachable towbar kit is brilliant

4) Multidot instrument panel looks good, and once I can be bothered to fit the canbus kit should be even better

5) Dog guard means we can bungee camping gear vertically making the most of the high rear, this car holds LOADS of kit

6) Cornering fogs are great as the headlamps are so poor, inside kerbs are visible

7) RNS310 fitted with just a GPS aerial works fine, we just have to switch it back on every 30 mins!

I still miss my Roomy Scout 1.9tdi.  I had mine for five years and it was the best car I have ever owned.  It sadly had to make way for an SE DSG following the return of an old knee injury.  I found the seats in the SE far less comfortable.

I now own a Yeti which I love, but I would swap it in a heartbeat for a brand new Roomy Scout DSG.  Yes - the Roomy was *that* good.
