Merry Christmas all. 

I've got a knocking rattle on the n/s/r of my mk1 octavia vrs. I am planning on replacing the bushes but can't afford to do it all at once so I'd like to start with the annoying rattle. 

Does anything obvious spring to mind? 

Stone trapped under the dust shield. Free to check and if you're lucky, to cure as well. If you're not lucky, will need  new discs and pads.

No this is definitely a suspension issue. It's a loud knock when I go over a pothole and a rattle when driving on a good British road. 

Broken rear spring, right up at the pig tail. The broken bit often lands in the lower seat.
