Steering Module angle sensor

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Just a quick one. Im retrofitting a multifunction steering wheel and maxidot. I originally had a 1K0953549CQ (midline with factory cruise control) and opted for the popular 1K0953549CH (Highline MFSW, Maxidot, CC), but it has a steering angle sensor over the original.

Should i be buying one of the other three at the top of the table? possibly the 1K0953549CD is the best match?

I think i already know the answer as its going to throw up a G85 Steering angle fault as the new module wont be reading anything?

Eddie-NL will be doing some of the more in depth stuff once i get all the kit but im doing the steering wheel part myself. Car is manual early 2009 2.0TSI vRS pre FL with FL interior (half breed)

@Eddie-NL

Cheers

Tom

ok reading through the above ross tech wiki i think i have a partial answer

My car is most likely this setup with the older ABS in the early 2009 fl interior 1K0953549CQ module

In this example we have Component: ESP FRONT MK60 ABS with a Gen 2 Steering rack based on: Labels: 1Kx-909-144-G2V3.clb

The 44-Steering Assist module does NOT support an internal steering angle sensor. If you attempted to read Adaptation Channel 009: Steering Angle Sensor it would report error.
The 16-Steering Wheel electronics, Slip Ring and G85 sensor are all sold separately in this type of vehicle.

In this case G85 is located on the steering column behind the slip ring. If you needed to perform a calibration that would be done in the 03-ABS brake controller using this procedure: VW Golf (1K) Brake Electronics (MK60)

The steering control module i have would be this ( 1K0953549CH )

In this example we have Component: ESP MK60EC1 ABS with a Gen 3 Steering rack based on Labels: 1K0-909-14x-GEN3.clb.

The 44-Steering Assist module supports an internal steering angle sensor. If you read Adaptation Channel 009: Steering Angle Sensor it would report the stored value of 0 = Internal Steering Angle Sensor active.
The 16-Steering Wheel electronics and Slip Ring are sold separately in this type of vehicle but G85 is NOT installed in the steering column.

Even though G85 is located in the steering rack you would perform a calibration in the MK60EC1 ABS control module using this page: VW Golf (1K) Brake Electronics (MK60EC1)

You should use a CD

However you can fit a CH without any issue, CH is designed for cars that have a steering angle sensor behind the slip ring.

Your car has it on the steering rack

Thanks for clearing it up Eddie. I have a china made CH on me and a genuine CE from a breaker @ £25 arriving next week.

May try the CE first as i want to stay genuine components if i can.

P.s. happy new year
