not sure i bought the car with this problem!

How long have you had the car? Is it under some sort of warranty still?

Stupid question but if it has never worked has it got it?

Classic models dont have it as standard.

thats what i was thinking this morning reading this thread, but didn't want to be the one to say it!

That's why I subtly asked to find out :P

*Looks sneaky*

An easy way to check if it has central locking is to look at the rear doors.

If the car has central locking there should be a rubber seal/conduit that goes from the door to the car that the central locking wires run through (as the front doors have). If there isn't one the car doesn't have central locking.

You can get a skoda kit to fit central locking (try http://www.jhmbuttco.com/page7.html or sometimes they are on eBay - make sure it is the proper Skoda kit). I've done it but it did take a few days of trouble but worth the effort. It comes with instructions but they are not 100% complete and you may have to trudge through the archives here to find out how to remove trim etc...

If you have got central locking I haven't got a clue how to fix it:D

I have a Fabia 1.4 Classic (03 reg) and it doesn't have central locking.

Yeah, it might not have central locking by the key.

thats a bit of a pain in the **** the key doesnt even lock the one door though!

Oh right, so you put the key in the drivers door and it doesnt do anything at all, does it feel loose?

  • Author

yes it does feel loose

Then the back of the barrell has broken off. Quite a coomon fault, will need a moddified lock barrell.

is it easy to fit and where is the best place to get one?

Very easy to fit, get one from your local Skoda dealer.
