Skoda Fabia Mk2 VRS - Electric windows problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So I have a problem with my driver's side electric window that randomly appeared last night. This is for a 62 plater (CTHE) mk2 VRS with just electric windows in the front. I can put the driver's window down with one touch / holding the button. However, when doing one touch / holding the button to put the window up, it gets to about 1/4 of the way up and slows down & goes down a few inches implying it has something in the way of the window. I can get round this by doing it slowly past the point of it going down then just holding it to the top. I was wondering what this would be if anyone would know?

I'll try to get a video of it later

Cheers

It's basically sticking in the tracks and the motor senses an "over torque" like if someones arm is in the window so it drops it again, its annoying when it happens. Sometimes mine does it when its very windy and travelling at speed and I put the window up. Thsi can be caused by "cold" weather as the factory grease gets "stickier" at lower temps and it gets worse with age.

What I would do (first), is remove the door card / trim, then slacken and remove all the bolts x 4 that hold the regulator / motor panel to the door (see image red arrows), You can then manouver the panel inside the door a little and this will reveal the plastic slide which runs on the track. Here I would (if dirty) give it a clean as much as possible, with something like WD40 or similar, then apply a spray silicone grease to the track as much as you can see. Then put the 4 bolts back into the panel and do them up but not fully tight.

Then slacken the 2 bolts 1 or 2 turns that hold the channel to the door (top and bottom (yellow arrows), operate the window through full travel a couple of times up and down, then with the window fully up, re-tighten all bolts and see how that works. There is also a twack at the front end of the door basically runs down behind the speaker, if you can get some spray in there that will help to.

You can also if you want, remove the motor (3 bolts) and whilst "helping" the window glass itself, turn the wheel on the regulator and move the window up and down by hand, you may need to just refit 2 bolts in the panel a couple of threads to hold it in postion when you twist the wheel by hand to stop it twisting the panel, this will enable you to position the plastic guide in as many positions as you want.

Offcourse, if there is something "wrong" with the regulator itself, this wont help, but def worth a try before spending.

Cheers for the detailed response Panzer,

I'll get get onto that tomorrow evening sometime and report back.

Thanks once again

The Audi A3 has a regular issue where the regulator wire frays and causes a similar symptom, eventually the wire just breaks, so may be worth looking at the wires if the track lubing doesn’t work.  It doesn’t sound like a switch problem.
