Tyres for 2011 Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

Hi all,

It's MOT time for our 2011 Monte Carlo at the end of the month, the rear tyres are definitely a fail so I want to pick some up well in advance to save on garage prices.

The car currently has a mix of Pirelli and no name tyres, all of which will be replaced with a matching set so this tyre change will set the pattern. The car is running the 17" rims so 205 / 40 / r17.

I've just had a set of Uniroyal Rainsport 3's put on my Octavia VRS which are great so far (replacing Vredestein Ultracs.....great but wear out quicker than a cheap suit!), I'm tempted to put them on the Fabia but I am also looking to save a few quid.

Can anybody give any recommendations for the Fabia, it's my wife's car and she does the school run with the kids so all weather performance and overall fuel economy are the order of the day.

Avon ZZ5's or Khumo Ecsta's are looking to be the best balance of budget and all around performance....anybody running them?

Cheers

Avon ZZ5s are awful id avoid them.

Cheers :) Good to know

I've been running Avon ZZ5s since August and for the price I find them a good alternative to the Conti Sport 3s that I had on previously.... seem less 'slippy' in the wet and clinging to roundabouts in the dry is pretty good. Though it's all subjective I guess. Their sidewall rim protection is a little more substantial when compared to the Sport 3s. In 'grandad' drive mode on my usual weekly trawl to Hemsworth & back (Leeds), I do seem to have dropped slightly in mpg though...... going from high 60s on the Sport 3s to around 63mpg at best now.

I know it's a shallow comment to make but I do like the look of the ZZ5s

"Check out my sexy boots!!!" LOL

Cheers all....I suppose it is subjective at the end of the day.

I have had Avon in the distant past , albeit a different model, and to be fair they were fine, didn't set the world alight but then that's not what I need them for.

I'll search around for some more reviews on the Khumos. Toyo proxes are also looking affordable but I've had them in the past on several different cars and although they gripped like limpets the wear rate was really high!

You will wear the inside of the Toyo tyres very quickly.

i have Bridgestone Potenzas on mine, done 10k miles and still have over 6mm tread on them, and all even wear across the tyre.  I reckon I could get 25k out of them by the time they get to 3mm
