Lost both keys....

Featured Replies

Hi

I've been running on one key for some time, and have now managed to lose that (yep, I am a total ****)!

The only key I have opens the vehicle, but does not turn off the alarm or the immobiliser (used for surfing / watersports).

Any locksmiths in the Swindon/Cirencester area who can help?  I have the VIN and logbook.

Please call on 07387 383243 if you can help.  Or message me here.

Or if anyone can recommend a good local locksmith, I'd very much welcome your help.

There's no immediate rush as we have another vehicle, but it would be good if this could be sorted next week (say between 9 and 11 January)

Thanks everyone

Andy

The problem is that to get a key made from scratch you need the key blade cutting information and the immobiliser chip information. I believe Skoda dealers (Fish Brothers Swindon) can get new keys made and shipped over in about three weeks and at great expense but probably worth a phone call.

I was told that the AA can also make keys.

Most car insurance policies have a section on lost keys too, so check your policy.

If you get one key replaced then you can get a cheaper non remote clone made at Timpsons at most Swindon supermarkets.

Thanks pikpilot. Timpsons have failed to have a key work twice for this vehicle...after spending  several  hours  waiting  while they tried.  Hence why only one key...

I had this also...  I didn't have any key at all, so I also wasn't able to access the car.

I've contacted a local Skoda dealer and

- Had to visit them, with a bunch of paperwork, verifying I was the legal owner of this VIN.

- They ordered a replacement key based on the VIN. With the VIN they could cut the proper blade on it.

- After picking up the replacement key I was able to access the car.

- Had to tow it to the dealer (Since the immobilizer chip wasn't recognized so the engine shuts after 3sec or so)

- Dealer reprogrammed the ECU to recognize the new immobilizer chip, and reprogram the remote lock

In the end, the bill was 216 euro including vat. Took approx 3-5 days in total.

I've towed the car myself with a friend, otherwise that could be added to the bill as well.

Once I had a new, working key, I've visited a local locksmith which could clone the key and immobilizer chip (Approx 75 eur in total), so I now have a new spare key (Only without remote locking)

You are lucky you're not in a rush. I managed to lose my key 2 hour before departure to my holiday destination... So I had another 100 eur or so in costs for changing my hotel, visa and so on :(

Timpson's in Swindon are pretty hit and miss for car keys in my experience. After traveling to these car key "specialists" I too left without a new key after several attempts. I have no confidence Timpsons really know what they are doing re car keys.

@Andy_Cirencester - Well, in my opinion, you are attached to a plane by a helical surface wrapped round a cylinder.

You actually need to go to a VAG dealership to get this sorted.
