Convenience cornering lights...

Featured Replies

Hi again!

You know when you go to make a turn and a fog light comes on. Well I don't.

Is this what's in the settings as "convenience cornering lights"? If so it is ticked. But they don't come on. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks

Are your dipped headlights turned on?

There are a number of criteria that need to be met before they'll illuminate.

You need to be travelling at speeds under 40kmph, dipped headlights must be turned on etc. etc.

Hi Silver, thanks for replying. I've driven behind enough buses to see reflections and I've gone through the list you sent making sure all the criteria are met. I'm still doing something wrong!

In the settings, this is "convenience cornering lights" isn't it? The box is ticked, maybe they just don't work?

There is no option, in UK anyway, to enable or disable the cornering fog lights, I sometimes wish there was as they are handy on unlit roads, but in well lit towns etc they sometimes cause confusion with other drivers.

The only convenience lights I can see in the settings is the convenience flash option for the direction indicators, that flash for 3 or 5 flashes when the indicator stalk is flicked lightly.

Ah Silver, you said dipped lights. I just use auto. Does the car need to be in manual dipped setting for the cornering to work?

And is this the setting for it? Convenience turn signal?

Thanks again

You might want to check your car`s spec on your market.

For example Active has cornering fogs only as option. Maybe Ambition too?

Convinience turn signal is: one touch, three blinks.

From your picture above the headlight range control means you have halogen headlights. I believe the cornering fog lights are only available on the SEL model  and above that have LED headlights as standard here in the UK, so presume other markets will be similar and you need to have LED headlights to have the cornering fogs.

Convenience turn signal has nothing to do with cornering fogs.

They will work in either 'On' or 'Auto' as long as the actual headlights are illuminated.

As has been mentioned above 'Convenience turn signal' is not related to the cornering front fog lights.

Convenience turn signal is where a light touch of the indicator stalk results in three flashes of the turn signals (indicators), rather than just one. Handy for lane changes on the motorway.

Kenny R is correct, Skoda (at least on all their previous models) have not offered the option to turn on/off the cornering fog lights via the infotainment system, so if they don't work on your car, then it is likely you'll need someone to adjust the coding on the car using software. Cornering fogs have been available on non-LED/xenon cars before, but the Kodiaq may be different.

Cornering fog lights work on Superb 2 only if light switch is in Auto position.

So there is kinda possibility to switch them on and off.

I have a MkII Superb, the cornering lights work in both 'On' and 'Auto' on my car...

Hi all Linni, Kenny... between the two of you I think you've hit the nail on the head. I think my car just doesn't have them. Oh well. Won't lose sleep over it  :)

Don`t worry about it too much.

Skoda`s solution of fog lamps as cornering lamps is useless anyway.  Won`t help you much in the dark.

Cannot compare to Passat or Mondeo Mk4, which have separate bulbs and separate sections in the headlamp, beam direction under 90 degrees, pointed to corner, which means they are doing perfect job.

Whilst they may not be as effective I wouldn't describe them as useless.

They work quite well on my Superb and Kodiaq.

Not entirely useless, but pretty much.

Compared to my previous Mondeo.

They work best at the kind of speeds that you don’t really need them - low speeds. The cornering lights on my old BMW were brilliant - the xenons were motorised so physically pointed at the corner, and were brilliant at higher speeds on unlit A and B roads for allowing you to see further around a corner.

Cornering fog fog lights seem brilliant for illuminating the verge a few feet away from you - ideal if you were planning on swerving up on to the verge.

These are two different things -

cornering lights work only at low speed up to about 40 km/h and work independently from low / high beam

bending lights (AFS for Skoda) are motorised low / high beam which follow the road at higher speeds

The Kodiaq gets both, which might explain why, in combination, their effectiveness is a welcome improvement over regular static headlights...

It really doesn't. Until Skoda see fit to give us the active matrix LED lights that are fitted to Tiguan, we only get low speed cornering lights via the fog lights. The Kodiaq headlights aren't motorised to angle into bends, and the headlights don't have the matrix LEDs to allow extra LEDs to project into bends. There's a world of difference between real active headlights, and those fitted to the Kodiaq.

Again, Matrix is entirely different system.

Kodiaq LED headlights are motorised though. You can see it when you start the engine and headlights perform the "dance" (when switch in Auto position).

Different system. Same effect. Kodiaq headlights are only motorised in the vertical plane. That’s self levelling. They can’t rotate side to side to aim around bends.

Or if they can, mine have been broken since day 1, and Skoda don’t advertise that they can. They only have a small degree of beam shaping to help focus the beam to a wider throw at slow speeds and longer throw at high speeds.

Are you absolutely sure (I haven`t received my Kodiaq yet)?

Because my Superb 2 xenon headlights move up and down, right and left.

Completely sure. The Kodiaq has LED headlights, but in other respects they are inferior to the Superb’s set up.

Hmm. I can clearly see bended beam on AFS lights - Crossroad photo.

Yes, that picture makes it look as though the beams turn.  They don’t.  I liked the turning on my previous Superb, and was surprised, and a bit disappointed, when the Kodiaq ones don’t.
