Featured Replies

How  how do I get the heated door mirrors on my 2012 model Skoda Octavia VRS to operate the symbol is there on the door for moving the mirrors for heating am but it isn’t working is it the fuse I missing or do I need to go to dealership getting fitted

On mine pre fl have to move mirror switch round. Not sure if rear demister needs to be on or not. I recently replaced my mirror off ebay and works fine now.

If I remember correctly the rear window heater has to be switched on, at least on my 2005 MK2.

As for the mirror switch, you have to select it to the heating symbol, so actually pointing 'to the back'. At the front there are 3 options, L, R and 0 (to adjust the mirrors).

In order for the heating to work, I had to turn it to the other side.

Mine failed recently, the heating element of the glass wasn't working anymore. If you remove the mirror glass, you can see the contacts. With a voltmeter it should measure 12V if switched on. If not, check for fuses and/or wiring. But its not unlikely for the heat element itself to fail (it's just a resistive wire on the back of the glas). Costs about 15 GBP or so and is easy to replace.

To double check, you can measure the resistance across the terminals once removed.

On my 59 plate FL the heated mirrors operate without the rear window heater being on, so long as the mirror switch is in the heated setting.

Might be worth taking the mirror glass off and giving the contacts a going over with a wire brush, very common on a lot of cars for the contacts to corrode and become poor at conducting.

Probably the only connectors on the vehicle that resemble those of the bad old days, and thank goodness for that, there was a time when even the main alternator terminals were as unfit for the purpose as the VAG mirror ones.

My MK1 did not have the heated setting on the mirror switch, they worked on a timer IIRC with the rear screen heater so I had surmised that the switch setting on my current MK2 must do what you say, thanks for the confirmation.
