Skoda Fabia suddenly developed some faults, engine and ABS tracking lights yellow

Featured Replies

My skoda fabia(Automatic, 2010 model) was just fine yesterday but this morning there were two different warning lights: engine (yellow), ABS tracking (yellow). The engine seems to have difficulty when idling, even if I'm not pressing the gas pedal the engine seems to be revving up a little bit and then the engine slows down (I think that's called hunting). Lastly, the car turned off a couple of times, and just before doing so the battery light came on as red.

I'm totally confused by what's happened to this car, I'd appreciate any advice.

How to edit the title and content? I just realised that it's the ESP light and not the ABS

The esp and abs are kind of linked anyway. The esp may well be accidentally switched off (If not fully automatic) But I think that it resets each time you start the car so if you disable it, I think it goes back on again next time round.

The other light could be one of the exhaust sensors, etc. You don't mention if its a petrol or diesel engine at all.

The red light will come on if you turn the engine off, then turn the key so the electrics are on but don't start the engine.

If it STAYS on when you start or comes on during driving, this suggests the battery is flat or low charge. At this age, it could be the battery but it could also be the alternator not charging fully or even overcharging. Most likely the battery, though.

An automatic would be a bit more reliant on a good battery so start there and have it checked. The other issue might just clear up when you swap out the battery, anyway.
