People aren't ranting. They are exercising their rights as consumers under UK law. Maybe you personally would choose not to' date=' that is up to you. [/quote']

Some of them certainly are ranting and thats because of something that doesn't even affect them. Was I in PMP's position I'd be expecting them to try and source an alternative from another dealer but I'd be realistic about this as cars can't be magiced out of thin air when there is a lengthly options list involved. When that fails I'd want either a realistic financial compensation for the delay - possibly free servicing , or a loan vehicle such as the wrong specced furby until the replacement arrrives

Again' date=' your statement indicates assumption on your part, or, perhaps you know something we don't? Do you work for this particular dealer in order to know this "They haven't done anything wrong" claim is 100% fact?[/quote']

Well PMP says that they have shown him all the correctly completed paperwork so he would know.

What is your definition of unreasonable compensation?

Someone asking for thousands of pounds of extra discount is clearly ridiculous.

PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THEIR RIGHTS AND DEALERS PLAY ON THIS! It's called business. Maybe it is an unethical practice' date=' but it happens.

I see the same on this and many other boards w.r.t. servicing - people paying 100's for a simple oil change because they think their warranty will be invalidated if they don't take it to a main dealer. INCORRECT. You need a competent mechanic to service the car IN ACCORDANCE WITH the manufacturers instruction and using parts which are in accordance with (i.a.w) the manufacturers specification (i.e. genuine parts).

You or I can do an oil change, assuming we are competent enough to carry out this task i.a.w. the correct procedure.

I'm not a lawyer, however I am a (commercial) contracts manager for a large technical organisation.[/quote']

And with respect to the servicing issue , you are wrong.

You do not have to get work done at a dealers to keep the warranty , but you can not just DIY no matter how competent you are. The work has to be done by a VAT registered garage using genuine approved parts.

Fair comment, I agree free servicing could be a good 'settlement' if that satisfies the individual concerned.

Personally I'd take the loan car as I would most likely have sold my old car privately, and thus be stuck for transport for the 10 week period...

Well PMP says that they have shown him all the correctly completed paperwork so he would know.

Ok' date=' I missed that...

Yes, as a percentage of the price of the car, it's certainly not 'fair and reasonable'. A 2k reduction on a 50k car might be, but we're not talking 50k cars here :)

"Under EU regulations a car manufacturer cannot insist that its cars are seviced solely by its own franchised dealers." However, as you said "The work has to be done by a VAT registered garage using genuine approved parts."

Again, I stand corrected. I must admit I've not actually ever bought a new car in the UK, only since being in the US have I purchased new. Laws are slightly different here evidently so I apologise for that 'red herring' - when I bought a street-legal off road bike (DR650) new here a couple of years back the dealer expected I'd do my own servicing. Ok, a motorbike is a little different, but still a brand new machine with a years' warranty.

Thanks for pointing that one out though, as otherwise I'd more than likely carried on in ignorance (had the intention of servicing the Fabia myself).

No probs. I do all my own bike servicing now as well , but my bikes have all been out of warranty for a few years. :D

Dm Keith's are a spot on dealership. Just talk to them and they will sort it out. Yes. I would reorder and they should lend you a car in the meantime. That should be all there is to it. Ask for David (Sales Manager) Very efficient bloke.

Wow what a can of worms, the dealer IMO as done nothing wrong, they rang me and immediately told me what had happened and asked me what I would like them to do, ie re-order, find a car as near to spec in system, have them add what they could to the car they had, and no pressure was applied by them to influence my decision. The dealer is looking into compo from Skoda, and at my request has allready re-ordered the car, but the colour is blank as lemon yellow is no longer an option and the new sprint yellow is not yet available, if the car goes to build before I have said I would accept black as a no cost option:lol:. To be honest I am still happy with the dealer who seamed just as upset as me, after all as a new customer he wants my business. I can not see any mileage in the idea that he his trying to offload a cancelled order because the order he placed for me would surely be harder to get rid of with all the options? The only 'conspiracy' theory I can imagine is at the factory if they discontinued the yellow early and just sent out a stock car they had 'lieing' around

Go for a Black one then. Tell David you have been recommended one by Chris

If they are doing a part ex on your Volvo I'd have asked for them to take the car now and give you a decent run around including insurance until your arrives.
