Hi, My laptop has just given up and don't fancy buying another one just for the sole purpose of using it on the car. Would i be able to plug my VCDS cable into say a 5m USB extension lead and plug it directly into my Desk Top PC or would this not work, Voltage drop etc..Thanks

I think its worth a go

USB should be able to do ~5m. If you're extending the existing lead so the total length is greater than 5m, you'll need an 'active' USB extension.

 

Alternatively, you can get a OBD2 extension lead that might be more reliable.

A quick update on this, Started with the cheapest option first,, I bought an ''active'' 5 metre USB extension lead which was £8, It works perfectly..
