Auto lock intermittently making a second noise when driving away

Featured Replies

Starting to notice this more and more now, but since getting the new car in December, I've been having an intermittent second clunk (almost like the car is locking then unlocking) when driving away and the automatic locks activate.

All doors/boots/bonnets etc are closed properly and when it happens, I can press the unlock button and re-lock it without it doing it again.

Anyone experienced this before I send it to the dealers?

I've noticed it on my new one too. Not done anything with it yet though, and I'm not sure if mine's intermittent or all the time.

i'm not sure if I'm missing something here but isn't that the way automatic locking is supposed to work? It actually activates and locks all the doors when the car reaches a particular speed so it would make sense to hear it activate when driving away because the vehicle is then building up to the required speed level. This would happen irrespective whether all the doors are closed properly. If you don't like the automatic locking feature then it can be turned off ( unticked ) in the car settings on the infotainment unit. I don't use this feature myself but from what you describe that's exactly how mine is and how it should be.

Cheers all.

To clarify, if you pressed your lock button on the car (by gear stick) you should hear a single clunk.

What happens from time to time for me is I hear two clunks, shortly after each other, similar if you were to leave a door open.

Edit: note my 66 plate Octavia didn't do it.

May be the fuel filler flap locking?

I just get a single clunk when mine autolocks above the min required speed after driving off. Not heard a double clunk at all.

Only single locking clunk for me activated when I reach 10mph. I would also recommend getting that looked at as it seems odd. Don't think it's the fuel flap locking.

Hang on though, isn't the OP describing locking the car using the button before driving off then hearing the Auto Lock activate?

If so I’d say this is perfectly normal.

Nope lol when driving away, auto locking is kicking in. Sometimes, after it locks there is a second noise.

The point of mentioning the lock button is it doesn't make any additional noises when locking the car using this or the key. Only auto locking seems to be affected.

I was going to suggest that perhaps one of the doors takes longer to lock, giving a delayed sound, but then why would it happen only for auto locking and not manual locking?
