immobiliser?

Featured Replies

Last Tuesday, (10 days) took the car to get the MOT. used the spare key which only has the unlocking button working, the locking button did not click, just soft.

Left the key with the garage, got the car back and the LED on the key was coming on every 5 seconds or so, then it seems to stop. So put this keyfob back n the bedroom and used the good key.

today, with the good key fob pressed the unlock button and nothing. Unlocked it manually and tried to start, nothing, no dash lights, zitch.

Previously the car had started and then died after two seconds, which from a search seems to be either the ignition coil or the two wire loom.

The same fault as described here: except that my car is 2003 and not sure if the part number for the loom is the same which I cannot find online.

Has the key lock button burnt out the ignition lock coil?

I stripped the faulty key and the small switch on the PCB does not work.

What is the best thing to do with this dead car?

Thanks

Jack

Saturday midday: Battery was flat so charged it.

Sunday 2000hrs: Reconnected battery even though the charger was delivering 1A. Measured Voltage across terminals at 13.5V.

Rad fans started, drove car for less than  mile and the rad fans stopped. Carried on for 15 miles with no issues.

Monday 1000hrs: Measured battery voltage at 12.5V. Rad fans started on ignition, stopped after 50 yards. 20 minutes of driving later checked battery voltage at 13.5V.

Monday 1130Hrs: started car for return journey, rad fans did not start.

Hmm?

@jackg - Go to car. Switch ignition on. Does the battery light come on? If not, then you have a problem with the alternator control wires.

Battery light comes on dash.

Dodgy ignition switch at a guess.
