Octavia Suspension noise

Featured Replies

Hi all

Please help diagnose Octavia left side suspension noises.

Octavia 2014, 1.4 TSI, 140hp, 105,000 km

Bought recently, generally in good condition.

Had seldom mild suspension noises when turning sharp on slow speeds.

Two days ago, immediately after turning left, suddenly a severe suspension noise started.

Since then, it comes and goes (for minutes), and sounds horrible at times. It varies in tone and volume, as you can hear in the vids.

Not very much affected by the breaks.

Please suggest me what can it be and how to further diagnose.

I’ve got a similar problem , I thought it might be brake dust shields but wasn’t and can’t see any issues with suspension but sounds horrible when I reverse into my parking spot at work only when wheels turned left

get it up on a jack, take the wheel off and have a look.

could be shields moving something else catching / scraping

any noise on full lock  turning ?

could be a bearing or CV joint buggered - bearing wouldn't really come and go and both cana be heard more on turning

either way it shouldn't be making that sound so get it sorted sooner rather thann later s you don't know what addditonal damage you could be causing by continuing to drive at speed.

Ok, so after thinking about it further, I figured out it must be something related to the braking rotors, as this sound resembles rotor sounds, and it directly increases with speed when happening.

I watched a video on youtube which mentions that gravel/dirt road driving might cause something to get stuck in the rotors.

Then I remembered I did drive in such roads that day.

So I lifted it and tried to see nothing touches the left rotor.

I didn`t see anything unusual, but I hit the rotor and its cover a few times with a small hammer, and moved the cover a few mm away from the rotor.

And since then (30 km / 20 miles)

Problem solved :-)

ah the Jeremy Clarkson method.

glad you got it sorted though

Nothing beats old tech.
