Intermittent starting problem 1.4 tdi

Featured Replies

My 1.4 tdi has an intermittent starting issue, if left overnight or for 3-4 hours. Has happened 3 times this week, and each time it hasn't started has shown the EML light and flashing glow plug.

Once started runs perfectly and can be re-started immediately all day long.

Codes showing are:

17911/P1503 - Load signal from Alternator Term. DF: Range/Performance / Implausible Signal

16706/P0322/000802 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal

When the car is running fine with codes cleared, p17911 still appears but without EML light.

Any pointers/tips? is it looking like crankshaft sensor G28

This is easier to check; look at the terminals for the normal thickness wires (alternator control wires) on the back of the alternator, and if either of them is disconnected or broken replace it.

Alternator charge faults can cause problems with pretty much anything else on the car!

Have a look at this post, looks like your problem.
