Any way to disable haptics on Columbus?

Featured Replies

So, I love the Columbus in my car. Wasn't particularly looking for a car with one fitted, but now I have it I love it.

Slight annoyance.....

I'll be driving along and I'll indicate and as I move my hand past the display the currently playing song will go back to the start.

I can be driving along, cool tunes all around me, I'll go to one of the controls, pass my hand back a little too close to the screen and once again, my track is back at the start.

I notice the small "hand" icon that appears on the screen when your hand and fingers get close, so I'm assuming there is some kind of haptic control ability and my "gesture" or passing my hand a little close is sending the playing track back to the beginning.

Anyone happen to know if there is any way of disabling this feature?

I'd happily go back to actually having to touch the screen for all controls :)

At risk of sounding like a pretentious n0b, I believe the term "haptic" refers to touch interaction (e.g. 'felt' vibration or feedback when pressing buttons on phones or other devices). Only trying to helpfully highlight this as using 'haptic' might negatively impact your future search queries / discussions on the topic :)

I think the 'Gesture Control' you mentioned is more accurate - in which case I think I found a post here relating to MY17 and MY18 units + page from manual attached.

Think I read it shows how to enable / disable the feature, even though it's for Superbs

Edit: Similarly dislike using 'gesture' controls for most things. If it ain't broke...

It is possible I've used the wrong wording :)

I seem to remember being introduced to haptics a few years ago - some of the "what you can do" was very impressive and I was sure this included the ability to "trick your digits into thinking they pressing things without actually making contact".

It would seem hand gestures is a far more logical name for this and the one used!

I'm off out to my car now to see if this works - thanks for that.

Yeah - happy to be corrected if that is the correct definition btw! Every day's a school day ;) - let us know if that works.

Aye - that appears to have done it :)

Playing music on the way home and at every opportunity I was waving a spare hand around and in front of the screen and there wasn't a single track skip in any direction.

Cheers.
