Another Dash Cam - Viofo 119S

Featured Replies

Straightforward installation, initially trialled by plugging into the centre console socket, then hardwired via piggyback fuse as fully described elsewhere.  The cable is tucked comfortably and securely behind the headlining across the screen, then down the front edge of the A pillar cover, round the bottom edge and into the fusebox.

I do have to admit to the use of sophisticated and high-end equipment, in the form of No.1 Son, who knows about these things.  He has a Mark XX sonic screwdriver or something (other tools are available, apparently) and could check which wire was which, whether it was live and which way was 'up'.  I'm pleased with the Viofo, which now has done two or three months service; I download into a temp folder every 2-4 weeks (via a card reader rather than USB from the gadget - quicker) and archive the odd clip for whatever reason.

These pics show how it's mounted and what it looks like from outside (with and without a polarising filter to cut reflections off the screen)

All's well - the screen isn't cracked, it's the reflection of an overhead cable.

Vioflo make some very nice quality kit .. I just had the A129 Dual system fitted to my 280 Sportline .

How about the price they ask for their products? It seems excessive.

Well, isn't it sort of mid-range?  The Viofo itelf was around £90, compared with Blackvues at others at perhaps twice that (I stand to be corrected) and Ebay no-name specials at around £30.  I added the polarizer filter £15, the hardwire kit £14 and a top-range micro-card at £35 - say £165 for the whole shebang.  (The hire of No.1 Son and his toolbox was settled amicably at a local pub.)

The old adage is that you get what you pay for.  In my case, the Viofo produces video good enough to have been incontrovertible in three or four situations so far, should it have been required. A couple of these might have involved me - cheap insurance, I think.

(PS  How's Vancouver?  Possibly my favourite city, anywhere.)

Hi,

Just to let you know that a number of our insurance schemes do offer discounts for the fitment of a HD dash cam.

Regards,

Dan.

Thanks for the reminder.  It's unlikely that I'll be renewing with my present insurer later in the year.
