So took the plunge at the weekend and put a deposit on a 18 plate Sportline hatch 2.0 TDI 190 4x4 with 2700 on the clock

As it’s a long distance purchase just wanted to make sure I got a decent deal

Was wondering what people would pay, the only option on it is heated seats

Thoughts anyone.

Forgot to add its DSG

It's done. If anyone bought the same model for £2k or £42k makes no difference. Congratulations - great choice and if yours is anything like mine you won't regret it :)

Excellent reply, can’t wait to pick it up, even though it’s a 300 mile drive

At least I will get to know it a little bit on the journey home

booked it into local Skoda dealer to have reversing camera fitted as would miss it from my current car

Would they not deliver it? I bought from a dealer 220 miles away and had it delivered and they drove mine back.

Sounds like a great car, really fancy a Sportline Superb next and the 190 4x4 is of interest. Keep us updated with your thoughts once you pick it up.

It's definitely a case of each to their own on this one. Personally I really enjoyed the 300 mile round trip to drop my old one off and pick up the new one. One hard-learned tip - the car will likely not be full of fuel when you pick it up, so get yourself to the first petrol station en-route after you've picked it up. Unlike me, who forgot all about it and planted it straight onto the open road. And then sweated through 20 miles of motorway to the next station with the fuel light on!:whew:

Already agreed full tank of fuel with the dealer (and its on the order as I have got conned with that before :( )

Looking forward to the drive back to be honest, I am sure it will go a lot quicker than the journey there

Why not the 220 (or even 280) based on your current car/fuel choice?  Genuine question :)

As Jeff has said, it's great to buy a car which is a significant distance away; it makes it more exciting and you have a few hours to get to know your new car and appreciate the whole experience.   Whilst I do try and get cars locally I always fail and end up taking a day off work and travelling for miles!

Seeing as you won't be able to just 'pop back' if you discover anything once you're parked on your drive;

  • Check every panel carefully, if it doesn't have front parking sensors then pay attention to the front bumper (tis a big car!)
  • Check for the umbrellas in the driver and passenger doors
  • Check for the ice scraper in the fuel filler cap
  • Check for torch in the boot
  • Have a quick check of the features especially electronic/switchgear.  I haven't had any problems with my Sporlines but the first one did have a dodgy drivers window switch (one touch opening didn't work properly).  Seeing as you're getting the camera fitted elsewhere it would be better for you to find and report issues now rather than the supplying dealer point the finger at whoever is retrofitting the camera.
  • Check you have all the keys
  • Check for spare/repair kit in boot
  • You no longer get physical service books but should get a user manual and quick start doc booklet

I've likely forgot a few things and I hope you don't think I'm patronising you.  Don't forget to post some pics and give us an update on how the 'big day' went :)

This one just came up at what I think I the right price and colour / spec that I was looking for

would have loved a 280 but couldn't get one in my price range / age, as its a company car allowance I can't purchase anything over 18 months old (company policy)

Not patronising at all, its so easy to let the thrill of getting a new car cloud the judgement and not look at all things

They have sent a video of the car and did have a FaceTime session with them as well but only really to go over the bodywork and check that out but will give it a good going over

Good advice about all electronics as well, from what I have read there is a lot :)

It does have 3 keys (well they showed me 3 keys on the video)

Spare wheel also is present, will check umbrella, ice scraper and torch also

Again thanks fro the advice, really looking forward to it, coming out of a DS5 I am looking forward to a little more comfort :)

My tuppence worth of collection advice:

After near 3k miles it is worth checking the tyre for even wear, especially for scalloped tread on rear. If any suspicion then an all wheel alignment might be necessary.

Take a tyre pressure gauge, for some reason dealers often have them at silly high pressures.

When you drive off do not avoid potholes. If the suspension seems excessively harsh or crashy then turn back immediately and ask them to check if both front transport blocks have been removed. Let's say it is not unknown and the first advice offered here to anyone complaining of poor suspension performance on their new vehicle.
