Octavia VRS 230 oil usage

Featured Replies

Hi, my MY16 Octavia VRS 230 has done 35k and had a service with oil change in October last year.

Since then it had used approx a litre of oil every other month.

Has anyone else had this as it's the first time I've had it with a car? Any wider VAG problems that anyone's had?

Sounds like a lot if your getting through 1 litre per 1,000 miles, have you contacted your dealer if it's still under warranty. Mine used just over a litre in 19,000 miles which is what I would expect. Perhaps you have an oil seal leak? Any evidence of drips in the drive or where you park at work.

Hi, there are no signs of oil drips at all. I've even had it up on a ramp to look under tree engine and it's not leaking out.

Best get it reported to a Main Dealership, get the excessive oil used logged while the car under Manufacturers Warranty.

An Official Oil Consumption test can be done which they likely will say you will have to pay for.

If you know it is using 1 litre in 1,000 miles it will fail the test.

If done properly and the Technicians knows the actual weight of Engine Oil, and carries out the test correctly.

The 'May Use 0.5 litres in 1,000 km or 1 litre in 1,242 miles in the Owners Manual of every VW Model is not the 'Tolerances' if anyone at a Dealership says it is.

The 186 miles Oil Consumption test is a joke, but that them do what ever they need to do.

Just be sure it uses too much oil, and a New Engine should be coming your way when the test shows you are using 0.3 litres in 1,000 km or more.

................................

This Test below was crap, wrongly done and eventually the car got a new engine.

(spot the error.)  The cars Oil Capacity is 3.6 litres in this one, so that is correct.)

Thanks for this. Was this for a VRS 230?

Think that's the 1.4 litre twin charge Fabia Mk2 Vrs.

I have a 66 plate Pre FL 230 and It never needs oil between services. Currently on 15K miles

@brucie286

The invoice is not for a Consumption test on a 2.0TSI but a 1.4 TSI but the point is this is as your car will get Tested if you get a shift on and make your concerns and known as per the Warranty, so ASAP to an Official Repairer,

then once they know, that will be you safe as reported in the Warranty Period, then they can hum and hey, but eventually get a shift on.

Only time will tell if 230ps 2.0 TSI's end up with excessive oil use. Like all VW Group issues, there has to be 1 or 2 as a starter.

Okedoke. Thanks for the advice. Going to call them on Monday.

How long have you had the car?. Could it be something you have just noticed? It is unusual for high oil consumption just to start on these EA888 engines.

Is the car producing smoke, either on power or the overrun? A lot of oil can go through a turbo if seals have failed

If oil is getting past the bottom piston ring that will show up in a compression test or cylinder leak down test

if it is under warranty, none of the above is your problem but it helps to know what questions to ask.

Is it MY16 or 2016? MY16 may not be under warranty unless it was extended as many (like mine) were late 2015 cars.
