I run my dashcam from th ciggie socket, but of late I've had a problem. Madam mucky ( AKA my luxury seeking Cairn, who thinks that my seat is better than the rear ). Problem is that every time mucktub moves from the rear of car ( I leave her loose in car when parked) to the  front & back again, she finds the plug in the ciggie ( now as per PC world, "POWER SOCKET") , and plugs get damaged and fuses blown. I'm looking at a semi wiring job, and fitting a secondary socket down the side of the front consol and tapping into the wiring to the ciggie socket. Anyone know how the wiring is routed / do I have to remove the consol etc etc .

Yes the console would have to come out. Did mine to replace the bulb that lights the socket up. You can get it out without removing seats or anything.

 

The wires just poke out of the carpet under the console and are just partially wrapped in a sparse bit of tape ...

Thank, TMB . Will look into how easy it is to get a loop of wiring out from under consol. I take it that both + and negative are fed up to ciggie socket/.

Yes. Brown for earth and black/white for live.
