About to buy SEL Executive

Featured Replies

New Member here and a nearly owner.  Obviously a very useful forum to have stumbled across. At the end of February I have agreed to buy a July 2016 SEL executive 4x4 190 DSG ( I don't need it until then as my current lease car doesn't go back until the 1st week of March - 15 years with Fords culminating with a Mondeo Vignale so quite a change and a first auto)  It seems to be fully loaded with all the bits - Park assist, rear view camera, Blis, TSR, smart light assist, heated seats / rear seats, Heated windscreen, LED package plus and 19" Trinity Alloys.  It has only 1500 miles on it and has been serviced at 2 years.  Anything else to be aware of ?

It is likely I will be towing with it so will want to get a suitable towbar at some point. I have heard about a function called 'trailer assist' which can be enabled if park assist and rear camera are installed. Don't know how it works or even if it is available perhaps a wise forum member can advise?

Also Ford have a system (ETIS) where you can input  the reg or VIN number of the vehicle and it will tell you what the car has installed - anything similar with Skoda?  I can't pop and see it as it is 200 miles away unfortunately but I do know that it has been looked after fastidiously and is as new.

I have also been asked if I want the car GTechniqued? as he has had other 3  vehicles just done by a local detailer before I collect.

Thoughts and advice appreciated

Thanks

I do wonder why the first owner bought a diesel if in 30 months they only did 1500 miles  (average 50 miles per month)

Possibly DPF filters are very clogged if it just occasionally did very short journeys, as unlikely to have got up to regeneration temperature.   Might need to be manually cleaned.   Similarly could be residual soot which affects values or blocks things

The Good news is you have a few months of the manufacturers warranty left

Thanks John,  Good point about the DPF something I have never had an issue with as spend most of my driving on motorways but as you say it could be clogged due to never getting up to temperature. I will check.

Would the Haldex system oil still need changing at 3 yrs with such a low mileage do you think?

Ask the dealer to send you a photo of the stickers in the boot, they list all the items fitted as three letter codes.

I would be concerned about DPF on those miles and if you have any issues with it you will probably have to go back to the supplying dealer as your local dealer will point to the mileage as the reason.  They may not care that you have just bought it from another dealer.

Edit - Mine is an April 2017 car and has done over 40k miles.

Thanks for the advice on that. It's a private purchase from a friend who is 200 miles away so I cant just pop over (especially in this weather)  I shall get him to send me a pic of the boot stickers.

In regards to the DPF is 1500 miles enough to have built up an issue ?  Im pretty certain that it has been used a number of times for motorway driving however and  it was serviced in December as well.

Dont worry about the DPF. The system on the EA288 is good with active regen every 465 miles if required. The 200 mile journey home will ensure a regen if it needs one. The warning system is also "staged" so you get a first stage warning if the filter is getting high, then you need a quick trip down the motorway and good to go. I ran a low mileage S3 TDI for 2 years and never had any issues.

Brilliant !  That is good news.

This is what I am buying.3DB82704-1B30-475E-AAA7-9A97A13DD352.thumb.jpg.025f66fdd13dfc20ca94927fce7f9338.jpg

Trailer assist is just a straight downward view from the rear view camera, so that you can line up tow and hitch
