Skoda connect- superb mk III columbus

Featured Replies

Firstly, I realise that there are multiple posts for soda connect but they are hard to trawl through and get mixed up depending on the installed hardware.

Ihave had my superb since Friday and am getting frustrated with the connect. I've done multiple factory resets of the settings and feel like smashing the bloody thing.

can anyone tell me how to

get rid of the red globe

resolve the "internet connection failed" issue for skoda connect news, even when I'm sat on the drive and the wlan connection is showing in white.

get an Internet connection through the data sim (I have the 3 data sim where you get 200mb free a month)

appreciate this is vague but the dealer is no help, skoda connect take a week to respond and frankly I am thinking I've just bought a pig in a poke :(

Is the Skoda connect services activated? Me and my dealer activated everything at pickup.

For the red globe to disappear you must have an internet connection. From when it connects it will take a few minutes until it turns white.

Above should resolve the "internet connection failed"

If I'm not wrong the wlan only turns white if you have a unit connected to the car - this won't give you internet access.

I don't have a simple card slot and don't know how to use it.

Thanks. My care connect tick appears checked and I can't make it solid like the infotainment. Any thoughts?

I don't remember, I have to look at my settings tomorrow - when I renewed my Skoda connect I didn't renew "infotainment online" only "care connect" (allowing the webasto to be started from app).

What does your app say? Have you looked at Skoda connect website? If I look at mine it says that the license for "Infotainment online" expired October 2018.

Firstly did you set up the SIM card in a phone as per the instructions and then register for your free 200Mb?

Have you got a Skoda Connect account up and running?

Yes but in a round about way. I need it to be a sim and not a nano so couldn’t activate it in my mobile. 3 customer service did it for me

You should be able to check online that the free data allowance has been set up and FYI, the nano SIM can pop in and out of the larger card quite easily - it can be a little firm though!

I also seem to recall that for part of the initial configuration, the SIM needed to be in a phone so it might just be that it’s not 100% configured properly yet.

I could have popped it out no problem by them the nano would not have fitted the slot! Thanks

It is able to fit back in and make it full sized again.

Yes, but Skoda don't recommend putting the smaller SIM back in an adaptor or whatever due to the risk (they say) of the SIM falling through the adapter when driving. I had the 3,

200mb SIM and had to set it up on an old phone that accepted the correct size. You can confirm that the SIM is working by inserting in the slot in the car and going to texts, there will be 2 texts from 3, can't remember the exact wording. They seem to be embedded in the SIM, possibly that's what sets the SIM up. If you don't see them then I assume it's not set up for 3. Rich

Not sure whether it’s a related question, but wondering whether anyone else’s Columbus has issues with looking up postcodes - mine seems to recognise some postcodes instantly, but with others it just keeps searching and searching... Am I missing an obvious trick?

Mine is similar, though it always finds it in the end. I suspect (but not sure) that it's satnav related since the Columbus is trying to find a route as well as finding the address from its database. Does it happen when you have good satellite visibility?

I suspect you’re probably right and maybe it doesn’t help that I’m often parked near some big trees when I’m starting my journey, but just find it strange that the satnav will recognise/predict a few postcodes but not others - I would have expected it to be all or nothing. Pretty much my only real gripe with an otherwise great car purchase. I’ll have to experiment when I’m elsewhere (rather than automatically hitting the home address option), where the satellite coverage might be better, and see if that makes a difference.

Ability or speed to fix, ie tell you where you are, should be different to looking up a location on a database.

I initially had problems see

but more recently it seems better or maybe once it knows where you frequent !

Maybe I’m confused but I got the Three free 200 Mb SIM. Too big for my phone to set it up so I went into a Three shop  - too big for any of theirs. Reluctantly popped it out to put it in my phone - but (presumably)  my phone may be locked to Vodafone) so that didn’t work either!

Grr!

What do I do now??

I couldn’t get the three sim to work. When I bought my superb the dealer had forgotten to give me the free Vodafone sim. I went back in  and collected it. Set up was perfect and it works as it should now.

Dealer forgot everything when I picked mine up!  But after a month - what does it then cost?

And did you have to do anything to set it up?

It depends on what amount of data you need. Minimum is £5 for 1 Gb which lasts for a month and its basically a pay as you go arrangement.

The set up instructions come with the SIM pack (when the dealer finally gives it to you)

Does that involve putting it in a phone?

Nope. Put SIM into car, link to car wifi from phone and after a few mins at 3G or seconds at 4G you'll be able to register with Vodafone internet in the car and then you'll have all the connect functions and a hotspot in the car. Simplest set up I could image.

Thanks. :)
