Noisey steering

Featured Replies

2017 Monte Carlo 1.2 tsi with 18000 miles, when on full lock both right and left very loud graunching noise, had it last few days, anyone experienced this issue, yes it's under warranty but just curious.

In cold weather, and short journies, the battery voltage ends up a little lower than normal. The power steering provides slightly less assistance, you will probably notice it more in reverse, the steering wheel won't re-center. It's normal.

Power steering feels fine and OK in reverse it's a metal type graunching noise.

If it is worrying you, you really do need to get it checked to avoid needing to spend big money when out of warranty, I hate involving myself with dealer's workshop, but sometimes needs must.

Dealer will quickly look tomorrow luckily enough

That almost sounds like the answer has already been written ie " they all do that" - I hope I'm wrong!

Mine does the exact same, i was doing many short runs where the battery was not getting proper time to recharge, after a 30 min run down the M1 it was back normal.

Where is the noise coming from?

The wheels or the PAS motor?

I would say wheels when stationary and turning from lock to lock I have not heard noise, but it don't sound like pump the noise is so loud

Dealer could not find a fault, however there is a tpi to change brake pads as they have also squeaked but noise as described above was not paid noise, also shock absorber dust covers need securing.

The PAS motor is inside the cabin on the steering column and is electric.

There is no fluid and no pump.

So do you here the noise when driving from the front wheels on full lock?

Does it change when you brake?

When do you here the noise and where from?

Thanks AG Falco

Braking does cancel out noise, and worse from drivers side, I have done a few emergency stops and no noise, will monitor.

When stationary and turning lock to lock no noise

Is there? My Fabia 1.2TSI SE trim is booked in for a service in March so can I expect them to change the disc pads? They have not said anything to me so I may ring them next week. Thanks for the heads-up.

If the noise changes when braking then start looking at your brakes for the noise.

Thanks AG Falco

Hi, first post but couldnt not comment.

my 2017 MC 1.2 TSI has 13000 miles on it and has had 2 driveshafts already (at 7000 miles) and is making the same noises once again, has been with dealer for 4 week snow as im refusing to drive it with the noises as i feel it is unsafe, renewing the DS last time cured the issue for about 5500 miles and over the last 2000 miles it has got steadily worse hence me refusing to drive it.

seems its quite common. interested to see what your local dealer say.
