Internet Connectivity

Featured Replies

Could someone clarify the following for me - please!

What is required in terms of internet connectivity (if anything) for the emergency contact service to work?

What benefits are there from connectivity after the free year of Skoda Connect if you don't renew and pay for this?

I have managed (albeit with a struggle!) to get my mobile phone to act as a hotspot although possibly as I have been messing with this outside my house which doesn't get a great signal it seems a bit hit or miss (and I'm pressing stuff pretty randomly!). I know it's possible to get a sim card for the car - what's the cheapest way of doing this?

The cheapest SIM card is one from Three which gives you 200Mb FREE data every month.

I do  know this is kind of a 'how long is a piece of string question' but what sort of time might that last?  :wondering:

AFAIK it's indefinite as long as it's being used in some way. Receiving data counts as being used in my book.

I really meant how much use you can get from 200 Mb - hence the piece of string!

I re-subscribed for the online traffic info and the 200Mb allowance is at least adequate for that.

Hi.

Another option is to use a 3 mobile PAYG SIM. I do not have the SIM slot in my SIII but use a Huawei hotspot and move it from car to car. Its called "Internet with legs" and you get 12Gb for around £30. Amazon also do a 24Gb for £42. They last either 12 months or 24 months respectively. Suggest you get one of these to start with an see how it goes, rather than sign up for something that you have to top up to get the free data.

Thanks. I guess if I try the ‘free’ 200 Mb deal from Three I can just chuck it away if it isn’t enough. I’m still not sure I need one at all once the free one year Skoda Connect deal finishes - I can’t see me paying the renewal fee!

That's the thing though, you DON'T have to top up to get the free data.

Maybe Three should put me on commission!

Interestingly I have that SIM in my tablet and it stopped giving me 200 Mbytes after the first month. I just assumed that it needed the top up to get the extra 200Mbyte.

Does not really matter as I use the hotspot in both my cars and a caravan.
