FABIA intermittent wipers

Featured Replies

The intermittent wipers on my Fabia 1.9TDI stopped working recently in the cold weather.

There isn't a specific fuse for this, just one for all the front wiper functions and the slow/fast were working fine.

The day before I had opened the bonnet to top up the washers and this had caused the problem.

There is little micro switch on the bonnet catch tells a couple of systems on the Fabia that the bonnet is open or closed.

One is the alarm system and the other is the intermittent wipers.

The reason is that the wipers can the edge of the bonnet when it is being opened and if the wipers are on intermittent you may not realise this if they are in the pause between wipes.

When the bonnet is open the intermittent wipers are disabled, the slow and fast aren't affected because you can see them working and so wouldn't open the bonnet.

The bonnet switch was stuck in the 'bonnet open' position, it's only tiny and lives in all the weather at the front of the car,ice and salt doesn't help either.

I locked the car and off went the alarm a few seconds later.

The alarm hadn't been sounding on my car because I never lock it in the garage and only dead lock it when I'm out because my dog would set the alarm off.

New lock complete with micro switch from my Skoda dealer  and everything is now working fine.

If you have to fit one,you will need a star drive type key and don't drop the bolts into the engine bay!! Not that anyone ever would except me.

The funny thing is that not all Fabias have the bonnet switch, mine doesn't - maybe because it doesn't have a factory alarm. So it's hard luck if I open my bonnet and forget the wipers are on intermittent. Cheers Skoda :D
