Skoda Fabia Estate Third brake light seal

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Although my wifes third brake light is still working, we've noticed part of the red covering has cracked away from the seal and hence the unit is not sealed anymore. They light works well but obviously not sealed at all. I was thinking of maybe getting some black sugru or something like that to

seal the unit back up, but just wondering if anyone had any experience with this, is it a common problem to have.

Any solutions?

A completely different car but still one from the VW Group, my wife's old 2002 9N Polo suffered high level brake light failure when it was maybe 8 or more years old, I thought nothing about it and just bought a new high level brake light assembly cheaply via ebay.

When I removed the original light assembly I discovered that one of the bus bars had rotted through and the plug/socket had also rotted badly but not yet failed completely, though it did not survive separating the plug/socket.

So, even after replacing the light assembly I needed to buy a DC plug/socket and solder wires to each of the bus bars and chop the car side cable and splice in the new mating socket, now if I had more time, I could have bridged the rotted out section of one bus bar and just fitted a new plug/socket and saved on the cost of a new high level brake light assembly.

Bottom line being, any water getting in there is going to end up causing you problems so make sure the gasket is in good condition or cover it with sealant to get it back to doing its job.

I think you can also get res sugru, so that may look a little better!
