Remote key won’t unlock the car

Featured Replies

I recently bought a second hand Octavia II 4x4. It came with 2 original remote keys; both worked.

In the past week, both have stopped unlocking the car remotely. They’ll both lock the car as usual, but to unlock I have to manually unlock the driver’s door before getting the key in the ignition and starting the engine as soon as possible, otherwise the alarm will go off. (Why does it do that when the key is legitimate?!)

Anyone know whats going on? I assume it can’t be the battery although I did wonder about that as the range (distance) of the keys is really short compared to my previous cars.

Also - even before that, pressing the unlock key once or twice only unlocked the drivers door... I had to press it 5+ times in quick succession to open the whole car - is that normal?

Thank

Hi

The key triggers the alarm as it classes the opening of the door with the key barrel as forced entry-following up with a coded key start cancels this as you say.

Its designed to be only opened by key in emergency-you'll break the key if you keep using it like this.

Could be faulty remotes but both? i know my local TPS has a few in stock..... I'd change the CR2032 battery regardless.

good luck

Changing the battery cured this for me.

As others have change the battery in the keyfobs as they normally work quite for away, it's about 25 metre's from where my toolbox is and where a park my car at work and i can lock/unlock it from there,
