Suspect key replacement, or not?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

52 Octavia 1.9TDI ASV estate

Drivers door only opens with key turn in lock, not from remote

Barrel starts playing up (taking more than the regular turn to unlock etc.)

Barrel start turning completely not opening the door

Order barrel repair kit online using reg.

Take out barrel

OOOPS, barrel is not original one, has 2012 date stamp on, non-repairable

Question:

A new barrel is around £100 at the dealership, I assume this is cut based on the original key the car came with --- also, if you know where I can get one cheaper, let me know

Do I have any reason to suspect the keys have been changed, as in, I buy the £100 barrel and it doesn't match the key?

Googling the barrel part number comes back as a Fabia part number, so either keys replaced completely, or Skoda have replaced the original barrel as spare part?

Boot lock is completely gone (key doesn't even go in) so can't check, spare key looks the same (2 button foldable)

Currently opening car with remote, and opening drivers door from the inside

Thanks!

Id say the door loom has a break  in a wire to the lock module thus the remote not working.

As to the barrel.... i dunno..

Thanks @mac11irl, I haven't even started dealing with the door loom. I did inspect main connector in door and found pins corroded past working properly, so just sprayed some conductive grease and left it for now. It's the barrel I'm most worried about though.
