Oil filter on 1.4 80PS (BUD)

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a Fabia 1 1.4 BUD, the 80PS version, and I can't locate the oil filter. Is it under the plastic hood of the engine? The plastic hood is much smaller than on the 75PS version (the air filter seems to be separate, closer to the windshield).

Just next to the back of the alternator:

I can sense the disappointment that the oil filter was not up in the engine bay as expected where its easy to access :D

Ok, thanks a lot. So, I have to access it from below the car, right?

I think it's easier from below, yes.

I'd think definitely easier from below - as long as you have a pit or a 2 or 4 post hoist.

I've always gone in from above, and yes it is not the most pleasant job to do, especially as I still dump some oil in the new filter first, I seem to love challenges!

Do you not have any ramps?

So handy!

If you pay for the courier, I'll make you a set.

Oh I've got plenty ramps, a set of 4 wooden ones made by me and 4 axle stands and 4 Jackpoint Jack stands, but I've always found that unless the car is lifted a lot higher, getting yourself into the correct position to remove that oil filter while lying on your back is not the best way of working - from a pit yes.  My 1992 VX Cav GSI 4X4 was easy to rear from below as was my 2000 VW Passat 4Motion, but these Polos/Ibizas made me change my plans, I've yet to discover if "from below" is possible with my wife's Polo with the 1.2TSI engine, that pleasure comes mid summer!

I did it from below. It's a bit more difficult than the normal ones, but it's ok. I did it in a ditch, at my parents' house. I changed all the filters. The guy at the shop laughed about the fuel filter, he said I was crazy to change it after 1 year and that he kept the same one for about 10 years without problem. Well, I don't know what to say, I too know somwbody that only changed the oil and the oil filter once in 11 years of ownership and the car runns perfectly. It's a strange world.

Well done. :)

You could always cut open the old fuel filter to see how dirty it is. Careful you don't make it catch fire by cutting it though...

13 years and and 105K miles seemed okay for the fuel filter on my wife’s 2002 Polo with a BBY engine, 9 years and 56K miles so far for my daughter’s Ibiza with a BWE or something close to that 1.4 16v 86PS engine.
