Unidentified cable?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've recently bought a second-hand fabia mk2, and I've noticed that above my left foot rest there's a strange cable hanging. It's not plugged in to anything, and it appears to be coming from under the carpet/engine bay (?).. Anybody knows what this could be? Thanks

Ejector Seat?

Intriguing! I might pull it this afternoon

Nitrous!

It’s certainly aftermarket, anything on the car that has been retro-fitted?

extra lights etc?

Could it be a connection for an 'insurance black box' which monitors the driver for lower insurance premium. My neighbour's son had one fitted last week by 'drive like a girl.'

Hi all, thanks for chiming in. I've done some more investigating, and it appears it's actually not a plug, but a button! :wait:

So, as you can see in the attached video, it seems to do something to the alarm, which apparently is after market. However, it's unclear to me what it exactly does. Anybody any idea?

Edit: I'm completely new to cars; could this be a valet switch?

It might just be to turn the LED on.

Did the car start with it armed?

...Looks like the old "Heath Robinson" Type, home made bodge of old. Best to try tracing it back somewhere, to see what it is connected to.

It might be cut out/kill, might be fake led thingy, might even be to illuminate some interior/exterior lighting etc the previous owner has added!

Do you know of any other switches that are not working? It might be a replacement for them, even. Could cut out power to aux socket, for instance, power up fog lights, etc.

Investigation is key, here.

Meth injection at some point maybe

...Might be worth contacting the seller and asking them... If you got it privately, you will have their details. Otherwise ask the dealer, if you purchased from one!

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. Reason I didn't respond is--this led is part of the alarm system (I guess aftermarket, but working fine). So, as it gives an audio signal when I press the button and lights up the led, my first guess it's the valet switch, to disable the alarm. So I need some time to wait next to the car and lock it, and see whether the alarm is still triggered after pushing the button. I will post here what's the outcome of the experiment. :)
