Yeah thats what they said so.....but still the noise is stil there when the engine is cold. When hot its ok but when cold you hear the noise like .... cricket ?

Did this ever get resolved, what was the cause?

There appears to be confusion here. To me this sounds like the auxiliary tensioner NOT the timing / cambelt. One is an easy job (why you were charged £200) and the other a big one.

Aux belt visible on the left side of the engine spinning away. Tensioner at the top and likely some side to side movement if you shine a torch to get a better view.

Easily diagnosed - pour a little water on I - does squeak go away?

Garage going to be ripping you off if they diagnose timing belt without proving its not aux belt.
