Shock absorbers

Featured Replies

I have had my Soda Rapid Spaceback for nearly 1 year, bought from dealer at 1 year old so approaching 2 years old. It has 28500 miles on the clock..took it to Lookers/Kia in Newcastle last week because all 4 shockers are leaking.. I was told that they were indeed leaking but were within Soda tolerance.. I have never heard such twaddle in my life, contacted Soda Customer care and got the same reply. They are not bothered or interested, love Soda cars but after sales is appalling.. Getting the work done myself and send the CEO the bill.

Take your car for a second independent inspection... maybe MOT station ...

already done.. Still taking no notice..had to have the work done myself yesterday as car is in for mot and taxi test..One of their slogans is 1million Taxi drivers can't be wrong

It's my second Soda and my last.. Been told to contact Watchdog..

On a closing note, all 4 shockers went to the floor very very easily when removed.

Business use / Taxi,.  & location location location kind of matters.

Is it used where lots of speed bumps.   Was it misting or actual leaking.

They should not leak obviously, but wear and tear of a Taxi / Private hire car is a business expense / overhead.

Shouldn't matter mate..car less than 2 years old at the time I first took it to the dealer.

Only 28500 miles on the clock and it doesn't matter where you go the whole country is a speed hump.

The fact is, they don't expect you to have any sort of mot or test within 3 years. By then your warranty is finished.

No but i expect licensed vehicles plying trade to have servicing and maintenance and not just 6 month inspections.

How many miles covered when you bought it, and how many miles done when you first because aware of leaking dampers?

Was all good at 1 year old, and at 19,000 miles and was it on Variable Servicing, no sign of issues before 28,500 miles that had your reporting it?

Anyway, there is no such thing as 'Within tolerances'.  There is rejecting because of external or environmental factors.

??

Who rejected your warranty claim, a technician or a Warranty Manager?

The car had 14000 when I bought it and now has 28500.

No problem 6 months ago.

Service manager said they are within tolerance, basically a load of rubbish.

I am the 4 th person that I know of who have been knocked back

...Are you referring to it as a Soda as it makes you foam at the mouth?

The shocks, I believe, are only covered by basic warranty (6 months) , like brakes and clutch as they are "Serviceable" items. It is near impossible to control how and where you drive so these could quite easily fail within the first MOT!

I think you will be very lucky indeed, to get Skoda to replace them, especially as you use the vehicle commercially!

Usually, parts as these have warranties but that is "In normal use". Taxi, driving school, etc are classed as commercial so the warranty may well be half the normal duration, anyway. Same with a clutch from any clutch fitter. They say two year but have clauses in the small print. Take out the dual controls, hide the ADI badge and hope they don't realise! Or in your case, remove the taxi licence, etc and hope they don't spot the cabby usage!
