Radio update, possibility?

Featured Replies

I’ve got a 13 plate Octavia and it’s got a 6 CD,MP3 player fitted. It has a button on the left saying phone and it just mutes the radio ( or pauses a CD/SD card ) I’ve borrowed my Dads 16 plate L&K Superb last weekend and his radio system is obv way more superior to mine having a map system built in aswell as Bluetooth but the thing I’m wanting to know is if it’s possible to change my radio to have the phone function working as Bluetooth or if I need a whole new system.

Added pic of my unit.

You'll need to add an appropriate bluetooth module, microphone and wiring :)

:biggrin:Thanks So it’s a possibility to get this radio updated then? Do you know where I’d get what I needed please? I did look at Bluetooth units but as my cigarette port is permenantly live it’s not really suitable.

Hi

I am not sure if you want an original Skoda one. I had the older 2008 model which does not have the touchscreen and I upgraded using one from xtrons.co.uk which has all sorts of bells and whistles, I find it really good. touch screen, gps navigation with google maps, bluetooth, connects to reversing sensors, door sensors etc etc. Probably worth having a look

Cheers

I’ll have a nose there thank you, I wasn’t sure how easy it’d be to change it for the shape of it.

If you're happy with the headunit, just get a genuine Skoda/VW BT module...

There are retrofit looms that'll connect between the quadlock and headunit which take care of all the wiring. The actual BT part number will depend on your cars equipment and the functionality you want,

It was really easy to fit, clipped straight into all the existing connections. I just had to run a wire across under the glove box and up the pillar to put the GPS sensor on the top corner of the windscreen. You need a plastic spudger to pop some of the trims off to get the existing unit out. There are a few videos on youtube that show you where to lever the trims off and where the screws are hidden to take the unit out.

Thank you all for ideas and links.

Found a new unit for £245, I’ll now have to have a nose for modules and work out wiring/prices and difficulty.

Would be amazing to have Bluetooth in my car.

Don’t rule out a completely new head unit. I used to have the same as unit you, but couldn’t put up with no Bluetooth. I got a new double DIN head unit with Bluetooth, apple car play and DAB for around the £400 mark and I haven’t looked back, so much better, phone plugs in and I can call, text (via Siri), listen to Spotify and have navigation via google maps with satellite overlay, looks really good, even my wife was impressed.

I didn’t know you could get a surround to fit the gap in having a double DIN,

so many ideas. Glad I asked here. The lack of Bluetooth is a bit of a pain but I’ve bever had it before it’s not till I borrowed my Dads posh car I realised what I was missing!

Thanks to some delightful little scroats booting off my wing mirror that’s next thing to purchase before a new Head unit. Seems I have a difficult one to source in Scrappys so new it seems to be and fit it myself.

The headunit above is great but awfully overpriced, particularly from halfrauds. Perhaps if you look on ebay you'll find a cheaper, refurb one, or you can get a Chinese set, such as the Xtrons one mentioned which looks to be one of the better ones available.
