Problem sucking oil out of dipstick 170cr

I have a superb 170cr engine code CFGB, I just got a sealy tp69 and put the thin tube down the dipstick tube to start sucking.

 

It only managed to suck about 1 litre out, thought that was strange as dip stick still showing lots of oil in. this engine holds 4.3l

I put the dip stick back in all the way, no obvious obstructions, but when i put he suction hose down, it goes same distance as dipstick but I am sure i can feel it pressing on some sort of , only can describe it as a feeling off something with a spring action to it like a flap.

 

Just wondered if anyone else has had any problems sucking oil out of this engine. Erwin says you can.

Why can't you do it the right way - drain at the bottom?!?! 

First time I tried it on the 140 CFFB engine I couldn't get the tube all the way in but I had better luck on another attempt

I use a Sealey vacuum pump on mine, and had the same problem initially (I think everyone does). It's hard to describe how to do it right, but basically, when you feel the tube hitting the "bottom", jiggle it around a little, bounce it around and keep pushing. Sooner or later you'll find the right spot and the tube will go down another 20cm or so. Then you'll be able to get all the oil out. Once you've done it once or twice you'll find it easy - it's just knowing that the bottom isn't the bottom! I usually pull mine up and down a few times just to make sure I've sucked as much out as I can, but the whole thing should only take 20 minutes at most. Oh, and make sure the oil is at a reasonable temperature so that you can extract it easily enough.

 

And before anyone starts extracting quotes from the above: yes, I am talking about the Sealey suction pump at all times, and yes it could be construed (by those with filthy minds) that I'm talking about something else. Behave yourselves!

Sounds like a baffle plate is obstructing access.

Thankyou for your detailed reply, I will give it another go tomorrow and see what happens 

I use a solid piece of copper fuel pipe and can feel when its hit the bottom also can measure the engagement compared to the dipstick or look at the oil level on it, it should of course go further down than the dipstick.

 

My neighbour on his CR 140Tdi cannot even get a small bore tube down the hole.

 

Another problem is storing the suction tubes coiled up, they want to go anywhere but in a straight line hence my use of a solid copper one.

I used to faff around with a pump, found it was easier and quicker to jack the car up and drop the oil out via the sump plug...
