service reset on 1.6 tdi S

Featured Replies

might seem like silly question, but is it possible to reset the service spanner / service interval without reset by computer / dealer / independent garage

Hi and welcome. I've never done this, but I'm pretty sure it can be done using VCDS or OBDeleven. VCDS needs a computer, though you can use your own - it doesn't need you to take it to a dealer / independent. OBDeleven is a smartphone app and doesn't require a computer, but it does need an internet connection to work. Both need to be treated with respect though as if you don't know what you are doing (like me:)) , you could very easily mess up your car. There is a thread on VCDS adaptations in the sticky threads at the top of the Mk3 sub-forum page that might be worth checking out.

Just as a matter of interest - why would you want or need to do  this?

I have always serviced my own cars , and this is my 3rd skoda, last one 2007 reg 1.9 tdi, currently on 310k miles and flying through it mot, so must be servicing ok :) just wondering if need any special software to reset on my newer superb... have say I have always used quality oil & filters and serviced on time if not sooner

Not certain about this but IIRC you hold the trip switch in for several seconds (with the ignition on) until it displays the service interval on the MFD. While the service interval is displayed you release and again hold the switch in until it resets.

The trip switch is located in the centre at the bottom of the dash display just above the steering column.

The problem on the Mk3 is that there are two types of service  - oil and inspection. I've read somewhere that BillyJim's solution above works for the inspection service reset, but I'm not convinced it will do the oil service reset. Worth giving it a go though...

Given you've done this on quite a few cars I'm guessing you have been through any warranty implications @IrishMick
