Windscreen Washer Pressure Problems

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Sorry if this is repeating a tired old theme, but my 63 plate Rapid has really low pressure on the driver's side (right hand drive) front windscreen washer, and has stopped working altogether on the rear.

It was like this when I bought the car, and my local garage blasted it all out with some compressed air and presto - working.  It's worked for around 7 months, and then gone again.

They mentioned at the time that if it went again they would look at taking out the water bottle and steam cleaning it as they thought this was being caused by gunk in the system caused by a mixture of washer fluid.  They also think that the rear washer issue is because of corrosion from the washer jet (which is apparently the same as they use in a Golf and is a known issue!)

I've checked back through the MOT history of the car, and noticed that it has failed at the past 2 MOT's because of insufficient washer pressure so am now a bit wary that it may be something a bit more underlying.

My extent of mechanical ability is putting on the kettle to watch Wheeler Dealers, so I'm really not confident in doing anything myself so it's likely going back to the garage.

Before it does for what may be another 6 month bodge, I wondered if what I'd been told about the gunk and rust rings true, or if there might be something a bit more sinister going on which might need more than a good blast with some air and a steam clean?

Appreciate any thoughts!

Cheers,

Tim
