Reset DSG driving pattern and more

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

Is it possible with the VCDS to reset the driving pattern/learning funtion of the DSG gearbox? Hopeless high gears in low speed which is annoying!

Next, offroad display, how do I fix that? With the 3 gauges showing gradient etc.

cant be done with vcds, although a dsg gearbox remap can/will change things,

there's no need though, just use sport mode or manually change with paddles.

not sure what you mean by off-road display

Poor explanation by me.

When the car is new, it adapts the driving pattern to your style of driving. However, over time this becomes more «slow & laidback» as (at least I) dont use full thotthle on cold engine/after startup etc.  Been at the dealer and got this done earlier, but would be neat to be able to get this at home, if it is possbile and not to much hassle.

Thank you @JR RS

DSG Does not adapt to your driving pattern over time. It's an urban myth.

Correct -- it adapts to deal with internal changes such as clutch wear and tolerances to keep the changes consistent to the designed specification, but not to driving.

Indeed.

How its still perpetuated after all this time I don't know.

Can't speak about the DSG box since I've only had mine over a week, but I have just changed from the ZF 8 speed in a BMW.

On their fans' forum there was a bloke who seemed thoroughly knowledgeable in all technical aspects of BMWs, including the auto box.

In respect of the ZF, he said that the box software did adapt to the style of driving during each journey, but not overall.

It "learned" your style for that trip only.

Like 310golfr suggests above, the BMW fancier said that the "learning" could be broken by switching into sport mode and the box woken up to be a bit more lively.

On a related note, I found out today  that the DSG in Eco mode coasts when you back off the gas.

That took  me a bit by surprise when I arrived at the first set of lights without  benefit of engine braking!

Indeed it can take you by surprise!

I've tried using it for my usual drives to work (115 miles of M40, m25 and m4) and it literally made no difference for me.

Might be better for just town driving.
