What’s going wrong now?!

Featured Replies

I’m getting ‘kangarooing’ at low speed covering the clutch, it’s not my driving style as no other of my previous cars have done this, it’s also doing it (albeit not as harsh) to my husband too

If its a 1.5 tsi, go to the 1.5 tsi kangaroo threads in Karoq.

It’s probably the anti stall system. With the VAG diesels lower down the gears I find you need to be in a gear lower than you think you do. Then they pull a bit more evenly. The system isn’t an anti stall per say, but it raises the revs to 1000 by itself when you take your foot off the clutch to aid pull away. The 1.5 TSi suffers badly with this unless the latest software is applied but I’ve experienced it in my brothers Fabia 1.6 TDi as well.

Would the tdi be affected by software too?

i recently (under advice) restored factory settings due to the sat nav keep freezing, I can’t remember if it did it before. I’ve not even had the car 2 weeks yet! :o

Sorry I should’ve added, the car is 3yrs old, 65 plate

Have you got switchable sport /economy mode.  I found when I first got my 2.0d that I kept stalling it in economy /normal mode.  But in Sport I don't!

Not the same software fault as the 1.5 TSi. Updating the radio wouldn’t make a difference, it’s the engine software that’s written this way. If it’s happening in, say, second gear at low revs, change to first. Your brain will tell you the car can take it in second but try it in first. I found when I had a 1.6 TDi on loan that this helped. Being 1 gear lower round town than I would expect worked well. If you modify your driving style and it still isn’t helping it could be the sign of a fault, so take it back. DPF could be clogged up, injector could be wonky etc

I found this a slight problem when I first had mine, then realised it was the anti stall.  I could really have have done without it but it is part of the package.  It is hard to describe the best way of dealing with it but I keep away from the clutch until I have to de-clutch and then do so fully, don't try to slip it.  Alternatively, as mentioned, drop down a gear.

If you have it then it's one of the buttons directly in front of the gear stick (along with the lock/unlock button)

( At least) one of them was a turbo diesel, I honestly can’t remember if others were.

My last car a Mini Cooper convertible with it’s hideously small boot was definitely a diesel and never once had this problem?

could it’ve been to do with the tyres at all? They were mismatched front and back and the tread depth was also mismatched front and back. Reason I ask is they’re all off now and I haven’t yet noticed it doing it

I’ll have a look when I have to pop out later, I know that there’s 3 buttons down there, I’d assumed that the other one was traction control

You should have 4, one traction control, one lock/unlock, one for the auto start, and one for the mode.

Nope, just the three

No esp button on the other side of the gear-lever? Either way, set that mode button to normal or individual with the engine in Sport to get the best out of it.

That mode button is for the normal/eco/sport modes. Try a different one to see if it helps.

For the record, mine has only 3 buttons (no traction control)

To add, are the brakes (pads and discs) able to be DIYed? Or are they full of sensors as well?

that’s the next thing on my list to do

There should be a wear sensor but that’s only a plug. Nothing serious for a DIYer to do. I’ve been busy getting some Audi S3 310mm rear callipers sorted for my car and I hope to get them on over the weekend. I wanted to film the process but my phone shots weren’t good enough (left it in 4K but 30 fps so it won’t time lapse properly) and my new GoPro isn’t coming until Monday so pics will have to do. I’ll have a nice pair of red 272mm rear callipers going if the 1.6 ones are smaller haha

Thats the button, so press mode till you Sport and see how you get on, I stall mine far less when it's in sport.
