Service Countdown Indicator

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a quick question, my Octavia 2.0 Ambiente (July 01) today decided to display the service - 1000 miles message, I was quite supprised for 2 reasons:

1. I bought the car in Feb this year with 12,200 miles, and it was given a full service prior to delivery, and the car has now covered 20,600 miles.

2. It seems that the dealer has reset the car to 10K/12month service intervals - So surely this display should come on either in Feb or at 21,200 miles? And also changed the oil from Longlife to Castrol GTX Magnatec, meeting the fixed service VW specs :(

Any idea's why the display has come up early, as I assume the 10K is a fixed interval?

Also is it possible for me to get the dealer to reset the car to Variable 2Yr/20K service intervals at the next service (which may or may not be due shortly!)

Thanks, Graham

Graham,

Whilst the garage may have told you that they gave the car a full service, they may not have reset the service indicator. This could account for the difference. Alternatively, they could have left the car on variable and just stuck the fixed service oil in. This would have the effect of shortening the service interval. If you were really on fixed then it would have been an exact 10000 miles, I would have thought, before the indicator came up.

Hmm, as regards putting it back on variable - it has been the subject of much debate on Briskoda, and I'm not sure anyone has ever got to the bottom of it.

My advice would be to take it to another dealer and get them to stick it on their diagnostic system to see *exactly* what it has been set to. Then you can go back to the supplying dealer armed with that information.

Sorry to say this, but something seems amiss from what you have said.

When I bought mine the car had a full service and booklet stamped and ticked, but the indicator came on 3 weeks later.

They had forgotten to reset it and when I explained this to another (more local dealer) they were fine about resetting it and switching over to fixed for me at the same time. When another 10k passed and I had the next 'fixed' service, I asked the dealer for a price for both a variable and fixed service at 40k. Seemed more than happy to quote for both and didn't say I couldn't switch back to variable.

Rob

the indicators are set up to come on approx 9000 miles (generally displays oil service) or 11 months after the last service (insp service) according to my dealer........
