Post fix report on engine power

Featured Replies

did i see a link to a report on testing of a post-fixed skoda (or VAG) diesel?

There was one way back the looked good for the VW Group, not that it was anything to do with a car driven on a road, just as tested under EU Testing.

Any done now to a WLTP regime would be 'simply clever', maybe the UK Government / Transport Minister or EU Commissioners should commission Euro 5 TDI's with & without the Fix to see how they fair.

There was some discussion on it here back in summer 2017. I haven't really followed up on ADAC's work since then but I believe they've done some additional testing on more models.

Anecdotal evidence around here suggests the 1.6 has about 8 bhp more after the update. My own experience with my 2.0 CR170 is that it feels a bit punchier at low revs but I've no data to back that up.

My own pre-FL 1.6 Greenline with the fix (done 12,000 miles/18 months ago before i purchased it) - car now on 84,000 miles - feels livlier than the FL MK2 was at 72,000

MPG is about equal

The extra liveliness could as easily be difference in gearing as in any engine characteristics. Also, most of the engine range saw technical changes on the facelift model so it's difficult to make a direct comparison.

My 1.6d definitely exhibits a bit more HP and a bit more torque.  I've been on the ADAC website and they tested the 1.6d fix (on a Golf) as giving a 8-9hp increase and 8 ft lbs of torque.

Post fix, I'd say ADAC was right. My 1.6d is livelier with less downshifting than before the fix. Downside is the greater frequency of regens.

EDIT: found the page - it is here: ADAC test of the Golf Estate with the 1.6 TDI with 105 hp / 77 kW Engine

You'll need to use Google translate or similar as it is in German.

Here is a translated summary:

"The engine power of the 1.6 TDI hardly changes, the power curve now rises slightly earlier and overall higher than before - the four-cylinder has 6 kW more maximum power than before after the update."

"The torque curve increases earlier after the update and shows an overall higher level; up to 10 Nm more are available. Over a wide speed range, a high torque is available, which promotes  driving  in the most efficient gear overall and assisted in saving fuel."

"...the higher power results in slightly better acceleration values. The subjective impression is also confirmed by the measured values. In the acceleration and draft measurements, no disadvantages were found. When accelerating from low speeds in high gears, slight improvements were seen from the higher torque described above. Otherwise, no differences were found, the starting behavior and the running culture of the engine have not changed. Also on the engine noise and the vibrations of the vehicle, this measure had no effect."

"The fuel consumption readings before and after the update change little, showing only a slight increase in the motorway cycle. The accuracy of a direct comparison can fluctuate up to +/- 2 percent since the car was taken down from the test bench between the measurements in order to obtain the engine software update in the VW workshop."
