18" alloys for S3 - will these fit?

Featured Replies

Appreciate this may have been covered previously but I can't seem to get a definitive answer.

I've a 2017 sportline 2.0tsi and looking to put some different wheels on. I really don't want 19"s for a variety of reasons so was looking at other options.

I came across 18" Vega for the Octavia but obviously sizing is different, these ones

Yes ET size is different as is rim widths.

Would these fit and be usable? Any spacers required or other requirements?

Any other options for 18" wheels from other models?

Any knowledge advice is appreciated.

Cheers

Plonk the details in here for a proper comparison

They're not perfect I'm afraid. But they're not horrendously out

Apologies. I misread that you had the 19s. If you got the 235 40 18 tyres, you'd be spot on, provided that the 235 tyre is ok on a 7.5J rim

Update > Refused to install at two tyre places as this size isn't listed on CoC. They've said insurance would be invalid and Police happy to give me a fine.  I've done all my calcs and all seemed to be within tolerances even without spacers. Not sure where to go next, thinking asking insurance if they have a problem with it or even Skoda themselves but chances are some bland noncommittal response will be provided.

I really wanted these 18" Vega's on. Any ideas chaps?

Tyre Fitters or Tyre Centres are quite right to not fit tyres / wheels to a customers car if they believe not legal.

Their job, they get the crap as supposedly they are the professionals with the gear and an idea,

their employers insurers, their choice, sometimes they talk guff as someone training them talked guff, sometimes they know and are looking out for stupid and dangerous stuff and customers.

When i fit different tyres to wheels i take in the wheels, not the car & have them fit tyres and balance them.  I put the wheels / tyres on the vehicle.

It is my business to check my insurance and declare modifications and law and Construction and use etc.

But that has never stopped me fitting non standard size wheels or tyres that pass a MOT or a VOSA roadside examination or even a VOSA Centre Inspection.

Even a Police Examiners inspection as long as the correct Load / Speed Rating, Markings and not dangerous, not fouling bodywork or suspension, protruding etc.

Indeed and I can absolutely understand why they've said this. I'd brought in all printouts of the comparison calcs showing current 8x18's vs new 7.5x18's plus included the 7x17's that were originally on the car (surprisingly). Made no difference to them. One even said using 225's on the car wasn't allowed (not on CoC list of tyre sizes). To me that doesn't seem right at all.

I’m afraid it is, the MKIII never had 225’s:

The MKIII uses: (from page 262)

215/60 R16 95V on 6 ½”x 16” ET41

215/55 R17 94W on 7”x17” ET40 or 6 ½”x17” ET41

235/45 R18 94W on 8”x18” ET44

235/40 R19 96W on 8”x19” ET44

The 18” Vega’s will also sit 13.4mm further in, so will look quite silly unless you fitted 15+mm spacers.
