Land Rovers to Skoda

Featured Replies

Hi Chaps and Chapesses, after 40 odd years of Land Rover ownership I've made the leap from impractical to practical (I hope) and purchased a 2009 Fabia 1.4tdi Estate with 88k on the clock.  I only collected it a couple of days ago and the 130 mile drive home was amazingly quiet, comfortable and a bit quicker than any Land Rover I've owned. So far so good with only a couple of minor niggles.

A warm welcome to the Forum !  Drove early Mk2 LRs and they were OK if a bit basic.  Modern ones don't seem to measure up according to friends.

Driving landys was certainly an experience, I learnt to drive on my first one. It was a 1956 86" with a canvas top. I took the test mid winter, no heater and it was snowing. After the test the poor old examiner was so cold I had to help him out of the vehicle, that was in the late 60's. After that I went through to the Series 2, Series 3, Range Rover V8, Discovery 1, then Discovery 2. I had 3 D2's (TD5's) all were great when there were no problems. I probably spent more time under the bonnet than I did driving. After that the Land Rover marque just got worse with reliability so that ended my relationship with the Landy marque. So........... Hello Skoda! :)

I had a friend (now sadly deceased) that had 3 Skoda's (all brand new) and couldn't rate them enough, he was an engineer. Wish I'd listened to him when he was alive. Anyway, in the couple hundred miles I've done since buying this one I'm most impressed.
