Fuel Pump Cam Follower on 2.0 TFSi VRS replacement. Help required re fuel pressure.

Featured Replies

I have changed the Fuel Pumo Cam follower on my 2006 Octavia VRS using this excellent guide:

Thank you very much vRS Carl.  10 yrs later your guide is still helping people and saving money!

The cam follower was the original at 105k and showed very little signs of wear. However, better to be safe than sorry.

One thing I did notice, that I wonder if anybody else has come across, is the schrader valve. When I followed the guide and pressed the schrader valve, there was no residual fuel pressure! Does this seem right?

I did mine this morning, having tried to do it the other day but stopped as I couldn't find the M8 triple sq.

On both occassions I had pressure through the schraeder valve.

Thanks munster. We were doing the same job at the same time then! Was there much wear to your cam follower?

My thoughts at the moment are that perhaps the Fuel Pump is not holdiing pressure? There are no obvious leaks in the system, the EML is not illuminated and the car still pulls as well as ever.

Caught it just in time I think. Did you run the engine once you'd disconnected the electrics? If yes you may well have used what fuel was left in the system.

I know some people advocate that and others just say to bleed it out via the schreader!

Yes, I think you did just catch that in time. Looks very worn. Did you replace with an original part? I used a Febi part as my local dealer wanted £40 for an original!

I did watch a couple of Youtube videos that advocated running car w/o pump electrics, but I didnt do this. I still had no pressure at schrader valve. I think it may be a leaking pump. How does one test that?

ThatI can't help you with mate, sorry.

I did get mine from the dealer just because I thought it best for this part, I don't always use the stealer for the obvious reason!!!
