Been accessory shopping - maybe for the last time

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone

I’ve been a bit quiet on here as, quite frankly, the car has been plodding along without issue for a while.

Anyway, with the Rapid & Spaceback heading towards end of life as the Scala nears launch, Skoda has done that thing that all car makers do that infuriates and confuses me - they’ve stopped making various accessories for the car and slashed the price on some items to clear them.

Well I was down at the dealership this morning to take advantage. The first of my orders had arrived and is now in th car:

I finally have my variable boot floor :-) less than half the original price!

On order I’ve got a couple of other things that should arrive in the next few days:

  • Official underseat umbrella holder (I ordered 2, one for each front seat)
  • The under parcel shelf storage net
  • The new cup holder phone caddy (which is now big enough to hold phones bigger than an iPhone 5)

More pics when the rest of the accessories arrive.

These will pretty much complete my upgrade spending on the Rapid Spaceback. I’ve also decided to keep it for at least a couple more years after I finish paying for it in October.

It was a hunch. I’ve been stalking the false boot floor for years (see previous threads) and we all know how expensive that was. So when I discovered the price of that had dropped considerably, I started looking at other Rapid bits and found that other bits that are bespoke to our cars are now cheaper than they were.

Like I said, this is typical across all car makers. As soon as they discontinue a model, the accessories (not mechanical and service parts) get discounted and delisted almost immediately, regardless of how many of the model are still on the road.

Little update - new interior CANBUS-friendly LED lights to replace the yellow bulbs.

Off to the dealership later to pick up the rear shelf net and the umbrella holders.

Up next, the new cup holder phone caddy (in the pic, I’ve stuck two £1 coins in the coin slots.

and finally - the under parcel shelf net (will do a proper walkthrough when I fit it).

That’s it for now, I think.

Fitted the under-parcel-shelf betting this morning:

The kit comes with a paper template that goes on the underside of the parcel shelf. This is to allow you to mark and drill the seven holes needed for the fixings. Drilling holes in a parcel shelf that would cost several hundred pounds to replace was a bit daunting, but I am pleased to say it went off without any errors.

You need to drill the holes with a 7mm drill bit. The fixings fit tightly in the subsequent holes, but they do fit.

Fixings in place, it’s time to put the netting, hooks and other bits on:

Make no mistake, this bit is very fiddly as the netting is elastic and so you are always fighting with it. However, once the two long plastic places are in place and holding it, the clip on the bottom and the two in the middle of the shelf are much easier to do.

Here’s the finished article.

Only job left to do now is fit the two umbrella holders under the front seats. Waiting for the wind to die down before I try that.

maybe for the last time

Most certainly it is not for the last time. It is an addiction. It is like telling a woman to stay away from the cosmetics department.
